Landscape Designer / Placemaking

Groundswell Design Group Inc. is a multidisciplinary design firm specializing in placemaking, public space activation, landscape design and interior design with a focus on hospitality. With projects ranging in scale from large public parks and land art installations to intimate restaurants and pop-up activations, the GDG team creates compelling and highly crafted experiences through a collaborative design process. As a small, but dynamic, studio, candidates would be part of a tightly knit team working on a wide range of projects.

We are looking to hire a talented professional to assist with the design, production and installation of projects as part of our urban design, landscape design and planning team. The position requires a degree in urban design, landscape architecture, and/or architecture from an accredited university. Proficiency in design, graphics/digital rendering production, plan sets development and communication is required. It is essential that team members are comfortable both collaborating intensively and working independently, depending on the project needs. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, efficient, and should also have an interest and willingness to work on cost estimating and travel for installations. Program proficient requirements should include CAD, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suites, Microsoft office and Sketchup. Experience working in Revit and in a design / build / fabrication environment is a plus.

Groundswell has been working remotely through the pandemic, but the ideal candidate would be available to meet in-office at least one day per week.

Interior Designer (5+ Years Experience) – Tiverton, RI

Groundswell Design Group is a full service design firm specializing in placemaking, public space and hospitality. Our projects range in scale from large public parks, land art installations, restaurants and distilleries, to intimate cafés and projects melding interior and exterior spaces. Each project’s process is specially tailored to the site, drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, neighborhood and community to create a unique lifestyle and atmosphere.

Groundswell Design Group creates compelling and highly crafted interior placemaking experiences focusing on the conceptual design through design development stages of design. Although focusing primarily on schematic and design development, Groundswell also partners with architects and consultants to remain a part of the documentation and construction administration process. As a small, but dynamic, studio, candidates would be part of a tightly knit team of Interior Designers working on a wide range of interior hospitality project types.

Groundswell is seeking a full time Interior Designer with minimum of 5 years of professional experience to join our highly creative and collaborative team. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, self-directed, well rounded, and fluent in a variety of design aesthetics with a strong technical foundation and understanding of interior construction.

Candidate requirements:

  • Masters/Bachelors of Interior Design or Interior Architecture
  • 5-8+ years of professional design experience. Must have completed and be well versed in all phases of hospitality and commercial projects from concept to completion. Experience in high end residential projects a plus.
  • NCIDQ certification preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficiency in Revit is a plus.
  • Must be able to source and specify furniture, material finishes, FF&E, lighting, and possess a working knowledge of current trends and contract/hospitality manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of vintage and custom sources a plus.
  • Proficiency in creating and drafting interior drawings for construction/coordination in all phases of design from concept design, schematic design, design development and construction. This is including floor and finish plans, RCPs, elevations, details and finish/fixture/lighting schedules.
  • Must be able to create strong graphic presentations communicating all aspects of design including concepts/mood boards, technical drawings, renderings, and finish/fixture selections.
  • Strong conceptual design ability and creativity in problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to speak professionally and interface with clients, project consultants, custom fabricators, and vendors.
  • Experience in creating FF&E specifications, understanding of the procurement process and ability to develop furniture budgets.
  • Must be comfortable working with budgets and deadlines.
  • Must be able to manage multiple concurrent projects in various design phases in a fast paced environment and work collaboratively with team members.

Groundswell has been working remotely through the pandemic, but the ideal candidate would be available to meet in-office at our Tiverton, RI office location at least 2-3 days per week.
